The National Assessment of Learning Outcomes (NALO) for Key Stage 3 students has commenced today. Over 5,100 students from 201 schools across the Maldives are participating in this examination.
Since 2008, NALO has been conducted nationwide, previously involving only Key Stage 1 and 2 students. However, this year, for the first time, Key Stage 3 students - those who have completed grades 7 and 8 - are taking part in this examination.
The examination will be conducted in two phases. The first phase, which started today and will continue for three days, includes tests in English, Mathematics, and Science. The second phase, scheduled for September 2 and 3, will feature examinations in Islam and Dhivehi language. Notably, this is the first time Islam has been included in NALO, and it's also the first time students' writing skills in Dhivehi will be assessed.
In many schools, all Grade 9 students are participating in this examination, while in larger schools; a selected group of students is taking part.
The expansion of NALO's scope will provide valuable information about the education system and further assist in efforts to improve the quality of teaching and learning across the Maldives.
