Minister Dr. Ismail Shafeeu attended the ITEC Day celebration organised by the High Commission of India as the Guest of Honour.
In his remarks, the Minister emphasised that developing the skills and capabilities of Maldivians is a national priority. He highlighted how training opportunities offered through the Indian Technical and Economic Cooperation (ITEC) Programme have contributed to the professional development of Maldivians while strengthening institutions and public services.
The Minister also highlighted the significance of the celebration as the Maldives and India mark 60 years of formal diplomatic relations, reflecting six decades of friendship, mutual trust and goodwill.
Launched in 1964 by the Government of India, the ITEC Programme aims to strengthen capacity building, knowledge sharing and international cooperation. Over the years, the programme has provided training and professional development opportunities across various sectors, including education, healthcare, engineering, information technology, governance and public administration, contributing to human resource development and institutional capacity in partner countries worldwide.
