Minister of Education Dr. Ismail Shafeeu has reaffirmed the Ministry’s commitment to providing education in a safe and inclusive environment, with a strong emphasis on equality for all students.

Speaking at the fifth session of the "Ahaa" Forum, a public Q&A platform organized by Public Service Media, Minister Shafeeu addressed concerns raised by a member of the audience regarding the practice of grouping students based on academic performance in some schools. The audience member noted that this practice may contribute to bullying, with reports of high-performing students harassing their lower-performing peers.

In response, Minister Shafeeu made it clear that the Ministry does not support segregating students by academic ability.

“The main policy of the Ministry of Education is to provide education in a safe environment that ensures equality,” he stated. “We do not endorse the practice of dividing students into separate classes based on performance, as was done in the past. If such cases are brought to our attention, the Ministry will take immediate action.”

The Minister's comments underline the government’s broader commitment to fostering an inclusive and respectful school culture that promotes the well-being and academic growth of every child, regardless of ability.
